Zelaya comenta reflexiones de Fidel

El presidente de Honduras comenta en la cumbre del ALBA celebrada en Nicaragua las reflexiones de Fidel sobre el golpe de estado
Video Rating: 5 / five

Fidel Castro in his prime, offering an outstanding illustration of his wit, idealism, evaluation. This is offered notably to individuals under the spell of US propaganda’s demonization of Castro, to see and hear Fidel for themselves. Fidel explains the US has been making cruel financial war against Cuba, not only refusing to trade with it, but employing its wonderful energy to avert most other nations from trading with Cuba, and resorting to tactics of assassination and persistent subversion. Cuba was forced to flip to the USSR to trade its sugar for necessities and when the USSR fell, Cuba had to endure the loss of 70% of its trade. But the Cuban men and women endured this unpleasant “Specific Time period” simply because of their deep adore of their revolution and revolutionary government. Fidel talks of the Cuban government’s deep commitment to principle, like how in the course of their revolution they never ever resorted to torture or mistreatment of prisoners to obtain details. This is all the more ironic with the US sooner or later picking Guantanamo to carry on torture towards Muslims. Fidel here addresses an appreciative World Solidarity with Cuba Conference in Havana, November 1994. His 2 hour speech is seamlessly edited to about an hour by the late Dale Trescott as directed by Joe Pleasant from video shot by Joe Friendly and by TVMarti.

Stalinist Albania did that to people with long hair and beard, because of their “cultural revolution” bullshit, but not Cuba, both Fidel and Che had long hair and beard themselves. About the homosexuals, it might be true that they sent them to special prisons alongside political prisoners, meant for people threatened the revolution, but shouldn’t go to jail. Castro is (or was) very religious, so that might be the cause. He closed the prisons after finding out people were being tortured.

I know what you mean about soldiers/armies giving themselves certain liberties, but these things stem from higher up. If not Fidel, then Raul or someone up there. Same thing happened when Cuba shot down the Cessna from Brother’s to the Rescue. The pilot kept “asking for permission” to shoot it down. In Cuba everything is very centralized, and there’s very little room for people to do “as they see fit”…( I suggest taking our diologue private, otherwise we will fill this comment page up)…

I guess I can’t say a thing to that, armies do the cruelest things. (Armies meaning armed officers, basically.) Though even then I won’t blame it on Castro. For all I care those assailants could be anything ranging from Batista loyalists to CIA agents that wanted to give Cuba a bad name. For me, Castro is the man who overthrew the dictatorship of Batista – everything, but especially censorship, is a part of his foreign policy towards America in this “Cold War.”

My understanding is that the tugboat was followed by other tugboats and high pressure water cannons were used against the people on board. The PSI of the stream is strong enough to knock down a block wall, so imagine what it does to people. The ship was rammed and broken. No help was given. This does not look like an accident. I understand that a Greek ship approached the scene. That’s why there were survivors. But yes, you are correct it seems they wanted to kill all of the people.

Baxxie355 February 18, 2013 at 11:52 am

On the matter of all governments having their dirty secrets, you are right. As for the tugboat incident; Americans say their enemy (Cubans) eliminated the survivors, while Cubans say it was an accident that the boat sunk. There is no way to know for sure, but I believe they wouldn’t leave any survivors behind if they actually wanted to kill them, would they?

Castro is not the only one that kills rivals. Hitler did it, Mussolini, Stalin, Pinochet, Franco, etc etc. The US has killed its good share of leaders and people it doesn’t like, or present serious opposition. My point is that Castro is not (has not been) who people think he is. Here’s an example: While Hitler lasted, or had Germany won the war, none of its atrocities would have been known. Upon collapsing all was known. The same will happen with Cuba. All gov. have dirty secrets.

Reply

cojimero59 February 18, 2013 at 1:46 pm

Orders of that nature come from the top. Castro is not, and never has been the pusillanimous type. As a student (in University if Havana I believe) he carried a gun and was involved in gang activity. It is said he killed or had his cousin killed. When the revolution triumphed, it was obvious the people loved Camilo Cienfuegos more than Castro. Camilo “accidentally” died. Cubans know Castro had him killed. Same thing Hitler did with Ernst Röhm. (con’t)…

Oh, that’s sad. But can you relate Castro to all that? Taking your word, I looked better into subject. (I was not as well-versed in it as I’d like to previously.) It seems to me the armed forces were rather acting on their will, as according to the same source that backs up these informations also mentions Castro visiting one of the concentration camps icnogito and having them closed three days or so after his visit.

That’s fine.. I lived it and saw it. Also the families shot in their rafts or other small makeshift boats trying to escape. A fisherman friend related how he often saw the bodies of women, children, and men riddled with bullet holes. I did not see that, because I was not a fisherman. But I lived 2 blocks from the sea and did hear the machine guns go off at night in the distance . So I know what he had to be true. But all is fine… one day people will know the truth..

I wouldn’t so easily believe this. Now, I read on wikipedia (controversial source, I realise) about harsh Castro government towards homosexuals and people with long hair, who were thus forced to have their heads shaved. (Possibly hippies?) But I really won’t buy that. Fidel Castro’s best friend, Che Guavara, had long hair for one.

In a time of propoganda like ours, I really won’t buy that. Not even the words about nazism in North Korea will I fully accept until I personally witness those acts.

Capitalising your sentences won’t make your opinions and words look in any way impressive or imposing. Joe Friendly never denied embargo – in fact, he said that US embargo to prevent its citizens from traveling to Cuba was against freedom of travel. Now, I’m sure that is not so hard to see, you just need to calm down.

By the way, I don’t think Cuba violates human rights. If you think so, and believe using capitalised letters will make me think the same, you are wrong twice already.

I wanted to tell you something, it wasn’t true that Cubans couldn’t get out of the country, it just took more procedures than in most countries. And the other thing,if you didn’t know, is that since January 14th of this year, Cubans can travel freely to everywhere they wish just like in any other country. They only need their passport updated and the destination country’s visa. So now traveling to other countries being hard is not an argument against Cuba anymore :)

In the late 50′s, some public violence blamed on Batista’s police were really Castro’s people using Batista’s police uniforms. In the 60′s, Castro would round up hippies and gays. Gays would be imprisioned, hippies given and instant haircut. Jehovah’s Witnesses were put in prision camps (U.M.A.P.) for refusing military service. They were mistreated, and tortured there. I know many, and their stories. What a nice guy! Talk about being a humanitarian. Many people don’t know all this.

Reply

cojimero59 February 18, 2013 at 5:03 pm

Hi Joe! You are correct about the embargo. I know how the tentacles work. My point is, that during all those years with the USSR and other communist countries, Castro had ways around the embargo. Yet, things were still hard to get and food was rationed. So I don’t think the ambargo can be “fully” blamed. Also, things that Cuba produces. like sugar, coffe etc.. were rationed, and sometimes hard to get. In some cases, you were not allowed to kill and eat your own livestock. (read the next)

Reply

Joe Friendly February 18, 2013 at 5:06 pm

As Philip Agee and John Stockwell both point out, what the misnamed Embargo is all about is anyone around the world who is about to trade with Cuba or is already trading, is visited by a US agent and severely threatened.. So there are great hardships that Cubans suffer, shortages of all kinds. BUT to claim life was better under Batista than after the revolution reveals a bias beyond reason. There is real citizen participation in government with neighborhood committees throughout Cuba.

My father worked at the local phosphate plant and my mother was an elementary teacher. One grandfather was a truck driver the other a carpenter. As far as the embargo? it’s a crock.. while it’s true the embargo has tentacles, it does not tell the whole story. All the years Castro was aligned with the USSR and the rest of the Communist block, he could buy anything from them. He managed to bring nuclear missiles!! Right? Why not clothes? Food? Cars? Building materials? I lived in Cuba “Sir”… and the elite lacked nothing while the people had very little. That, “Sir” is corrupt! Castro always ran an oppresive regime.. (next)

Let me help you further… the US blew the Maine and blamed Spain. They came in at the last minute when the Cuban army had the Spaniards almost out of Cuba. They won the war in a short time and ever since have owned Cuba. In 1902 when the US “gave” Cuba its “indepence”… they saddle it with the Plat Amendment which basically gave the US the last word. Yes hey owned Cuba. But still Cuba was better than now. Castro has more corruption than Batista. But with Batista they had food…(next)
