Tuesday marked the twenty year anniversary of the ex-Panamanian Dictator Manuel Noriega’s sentencing for drug trafficking. Noriega was on the payroll of the Central Intelligence Company and graduated from the College of the Americas. His incarceration represents America’s failure of US foreign policy in Latin American and in spite of the US’ efforts to stop the flow of medicines the demand has however to be curtailed. I once had a friend who knew a lot of people that knew a lot of people, and he told me that Noriega was busted because the CIA had filled a ship headed for Nicaragua with drugs and were going to bust it at the canal, and use the publicity to hurt Nicaragua/fund themselves. But Noriega drew the line at that and secretly had the drugs removed so that the Big Bust (with press and all) was an embarassment to CIA, and they chose to punish him for that.
Actually most governments in Latin America except those few complicit with the US are against this.

Always pointing the finger solely at U.S. govt. misses the point. Russian govt. is just as bad. They all do what they can get away with. Do me a favor and cast a more discerning eye toward all governments. U.S. has most military might and reserve currency status, so its ability to cause mischief is greater, but these other govt.’s want the same power.
We need to rethink the concept of govt. and democracy. The systems in place are failing.
